1980 Land Rover Series III

Registration - SFM 864V

Chassis No. - LBAAH1AA104710

M.O.T. - November 2021

Odometer - 14,260

For 29 years this notably tidy and original Landie was retained by the same lady owner for use on her private estate. The subsequent keeper appears to have lavished much time and money on bringing it fully up to scratch, so it would have been in generally fine fettle when the vendor acquired it with just 11,600 miles to its name in December 2018. Nevertheless, he has subsequently invested in the following: a new Zenith carburettor, coil, fuel pump, exhaust system, choke cable, clutch and clutch master cylinder, front brake shoes, tyres, seats and seat belts, and now regards the interior trim, engine and transmission as being in ‘good’ order, the bodywork as being ‘good/average’, and the paintwork as ‘average’. Finished in Limestone over Marine Blue and trimmed in black vinyl, the Land Rover has even now only covered 14,260 miles in its 31-year existence, so should have decades of life left in it and its 2.25-litre petrol engine. Its current MOT runs to November 22.

The Series Land Rover steadily progressed from a single offering powered by a 1.6-litre petrol engine to a complete family of long and short wheelbase derivatives with an ever increasing choice of engines. By the time of the Series IIA of 1969-1971, production was at its all-time peak - over 60,000 vehicles per annum - and in addition to record sales, the model dominated many world markets. The Series III of 1971-1985 is the most common derivative, of which 440,000 were produced. Outwardly it was almost identical the IIA, but the gearbox benefited from synchromesh on all ratios and the cab featured a more modern, moulded plastic facia.

In summary:

  • Just 14,260 miles from new
  • Remained with one keeper for 29 years
  • Equipped with many new parts in the last three years
