An Auction of Classic and Performance Cars and Motorcycles

  Lot 77

1991 Saab Turbo 900 T16S Aero
*** NO RESERVE ***

Registration - J790 ORF

Chassis No. - YS3AD35S3M5012133

M.O.T. - TBC

Odometer - 125,436

Now here’s an enticing opportunity for fans of the sought-after and rare early Saab Aeros – ie an example that’s 90 percent restored and seemingly requires very little work to make it fully roadworthy once more. ‘J790 ORF’ was first registered in August 1991 and was acquired by the vendor in January last year. He subsequently embarked on a major rebuild during which: the body was stripped, repaired where required, repainted and undersealed. The engine was overhauled and treated to many reconditioned or replacement parts and the gearbox refurbished. The all-important Super Aero alloy wheels have been re-powder coated and shod with new Nanking tyres that have yet to be driven upon. Other replacements include the ball joints, brake discs and pads, and battery. The grey leather interior has also had time and money invested on it – brand new seat covers have been acquired and partially fitted, new door cards inserted and a fresh headlining installed. The vendor currently classes the 175bhp turbo engine as ‘excellent’, five-speed manual gearbox as ‘good to excellent’, the bodywork as ‘good’ and the paintwork as ‘average’, but it is not hard to see how this Scandinavian classic could be transformed in to a real head-turner. We understand any missing components are contained within the cardboard boxes that form part of the lot, and that the Saab does run but is need if fresh fuel and the fitment of a replacement fuel filter (which is also included in the lot). The final hurdle between the car and a return to the roads would appear to be the clutch slave cylinder – the new one that was installed doesn’t work, so will itself need replacing.

This potentially rewarding project comes complete with electric windows, central locking, sunroof and wind deflector, and whale tail. The odometer currently registers a total of 125,436 miles.

In summary:

  • The recent subject of a considerable degree of restoration
  • Comes with all parts required to complete the project
  • An 11-keeper, 125,436-mile example of a rare and desirable breed
