2001 Porsche 911 Turbo
Desirable manual transmission

Registration - FE51 OHO

Chassis No. - WP0ZZZ99Z2S680931

M.O.T. - August 2024

Odometer - 45,000 (clock change) on 118000

A highly sought after model in Porsche’s legendary 911 line-up, this example of a 996 Turbo is presented in subtle and stylish silver, over a dark blue leather interior. Fitted with Porsche’s twin-turbocharged, water-cooled 3.6-litre flat-six engine – derived from the company’s Le Mans programme – in this instance it’s connected to a six-speed manual gearbox, driving all four wheels. Fitted with Porsche’s Turbo styling details, the body features prominent front radiator inlets, and two more forward of the rear wheels, before a large rear wing completes the picture. ‘FE51 OHO’ also comes with factory ‘Turbo’ alloy wheels, sunroof, huge drilled brake discs, and electric heated front seats.

This 2+2 coupe was serviced only a few months ago, and is offered in highly original condition throughout. The vendor considers the paintwork and interior as being in ‘average’ condition, while the bodywork, transmission, and engine are rated as ‘good’, and the electrics as ‘excellent’. ‘FE51 OHO’ comes with 45,000 miles on the odometer, but the clock has been changed on 118,000 miles. There is paperwork supporting this, as well as a full history from the seller.

In the early ‘70s, Porsche had designs on racing a turbocharged version of the 911, in support of which they planned a homologation special along the lines of the Carrera 2.7 RS. A subsequent change in the rules negated the need for a precise number of street legal vehicles, but the company continued with the project anyway – the Porsche 911 Turbo was born. The 930 was based around the Carrera 3.0 RS, the engine from which was modified courtesy of turbo technology developed for the 917/30 CAN-AM cars. Initially power output was 260bhp, but from 1978 it was increased to 300bhp by raising the engine capacity to 3.3-litres. To accommodate the extra performance over the 3.0 RS, the 930 sported revised suspension, larger brakes and a robust four-speed gearbox. In order to help deliver the power to the road, a ‘whale tail’ rear spoiler was fitted and a wider rear wheel/tyre package was squeezed under specially flared arches – details that now define all 911 Turbo models. In 1990, the 964 911 Turbo arrived, using the same 3.3-litre engine from the 930, but re-engineered for less turbo-lag and more power, as well as fitting power-steering. It lasted for around four years, before the 993 911 Turbo arrived, with twin-turbos fitted to a 3.6-litre flat six, six-speed gearbox, and all-wheel drive. The 996 911 Turbo was launched in 2000, along with new styling, the flagship model also got a 3.6-litre unit developed from that of the 1998 Le Mans-winning 911 GT1. It was replaced by the 997 in 2006, featuring a 3.8-litre turbocharged engine and new Tiptronic automatic transmission. It lasted until 2013 when the 991 Turbo came along, only offering a PDK automatic transmission, but including new technology such as rear-wheel steering. One of the longer-running Turbo models, it brings us up to the current 992 model, launched in 2020, with a new eight-speed transmission and power now twice that of the 964 911 Turbo.

· Increasingly popular version of Porsche’s 911 Turbo – the 996.

· Well-cared for example, with full history and paperwork.

· Documented clock change.
