Lot 77

2004 Renault Vel Satis

Registration - CF53 CZZ

Chassis No. - VF1BJOJOB28164044

M.O.T. - January 2022

Odometer - 74,588

Now here’s a rare car for the francophiles among you – a top of the range diesel-powered Vel Satis that’s had just two private owners from new. The vendor informs us that it is a genuine 74,588-mile example that’s finished in Storm Blue and trimmed in cream vented leather. He says that ‘it’s has been extremely well looked after throughout its life and maintained regardless of cost’. Recent maintenance has included: a cam belt change within the last 1,000 miles; front suspension overhaul involving new dampers, coil springs top mounts and anti-roll bar links; two new tyres; fresh rear brakes pads; and the replacement of the SAT/NAV aerial. The vendor now regards the bodywork, paintwork, interior trim, 3.0-litre diesel engine and five-speed automatic gearbox as all being in ‘excellent’ order and is now offering this very highly-specified motorcar complete with its original book pack and wallet, pair of key cars, and every old MOT plus a current one valid until January 25, 2022. A unique opportunity.

The Vel Satis was launched at the 2001 Geneva Salon as a replacement for the Safrane and shared its platform with the Laguna II and Espace IV. Relatively rare – only 63,494 were produced all told – the model found immortality in films such as the Da Vinci Code and Mr Bean’s Holiday, and was used as a Head of State car by the French government. It apparently also has the distinction of being only the second car to receive a five star EuroNCAP safety crash test rating. Production ran for nine years, at which point the Vel Satis was superseded by the Renault Latitude.

In summary:

  • A very highly specific example of a rare model
  • Just two private owners from new
  • One of only 1,293 examples made with righthand drive
