1987 Ford Escort Series 2 RS Turbo
Restored by a multiple show winner

Registration - E823 KHT

M.O.T. - September 2023

Odometer - 83,100

Most enthusiasts seeking classic cars nowadays opt for ones that have remained unmolested or been treated to a thorough restoration. If they’re in the latter camp, they naturally want to know the work is of suitable quality. Well, this truly immaculate Series 2 RS Turbo is the work of the vendor, who informs us that he’s restored four such fast Fords and ‘won multiple concours events’ with previous cars he’s owned. Evidently the bodywork of ‘E823 KHT’ has been the recipient of a glass out respray from top to bottom (check out the photos of the underside) following welding work that included the installation of a new battery tray, pair of new genuine front wings and rear arches. The suspension, brakes, fuel tank, fuel pump etc were all replaced and the engine stripped and inspected. Its head was refurbished at Lindleys Automotive, the turbo overhauled by Midland Turbo and the gearbox stripped and rebuilt after the casing had been aquablasted, as were all other such aluminium components etc. The vendor now judges the CVH engine, five-speed manual transmission, bodywork, Diamond White paintwork and Raven fabric interior trim to all be in ‘excellent’ condition. He is now offering this stunning five-owner, 83,100-mile RS complete with current MOT valid to September 26 next year.

Debuted in October 1984, the RS Turbo went on sale in the following spring. The initial plan was to build the 5,000 examples required for Group A homologation, however, following better than expected demand a total of 8,604 were eventually created, 5,000 of which were reserved for the UK market. Power for the model came courtesy of a 1597cc version of the company’s CVH engine force fed by a Garrett AiResearch T3 turbocharger. The resulting peak output was 132bhp at 6,000 rpm – sufficient for the Escort to achieve the 0-60mph sprint in 7.8 seconds and 128mph flat out.

In summary:

  • Subject to a full nut and bolt restoration to concours standard
  • Just five owners and 83,100 miles from new
  • Comes complete with current MOT into September next year
