  Lot 79

1966 Triumph TR4

Chassis No. - CTC70916

Registration - LLN 251D

M.O.T. - EXEMPT

Odometer – 13,192

Aficionados of Triumph’s team of Works TR4 competition cars, will be immediately drawn to the sale car’s powder blue paintwork and Minilite style wheels, and this street-legal competition machine is very much in the vein of those 1960s heroes. The vendor informs us that, following a ‘no expense spared rebuild’, it is a potential winner in both sprints and hillclimb events and eligible for the Revington Championship, while with a change of ride height it would be equally suitable for regularity rallies. The history of the Triumph is largely unknown, though Eddy Driver, one of three former keepers, is thought to have raced it. The impressive specification includes ultra-light fibreglass wings, front and rear valences bonnet, bootlid and Surrey top with Plexiglass screen. The front wings have Works-type air vents, while the bonnet is a rare SAH item with integral scoop.

The lightened and balanced 2289cc stage 2+ powerplant was built by Bradbury Engineering and features: forged pistons and liners; big-valve cylinder head; sprint camshaft; 45DCOE Weber carburettors; high-torque starter motor; tubular exhaust manifold; Facet fuel pump; H&H competition distributor; Lumenition HT leads; lightweight, large core alloy radiator; remote header tank; Revotec electric cooling fan. The unit drives through an uprated clutch and gearbox to a standard 3.7:1 rear axle. The lowered suspension includes uprated lever arm dampers and rose-jointed drop links at the rear, and Spax-type front dampers with shortened springs and heavy duty anti-roll bar at the front, plus shorter top arms to give 1.5 deg. of negative camber. Braking is courtesy of new discs and competition pads, while the 6x15in. wheels are shod with Toyo Proxes tyres. The black vinyl-trimmed interior includes: works-style bucket seats; four-point harnesses; rear roll cage; Revington alloy fire wall; Astrali steering wheel; fly-off handbrake; master isolator switch; new competition battery. A Works light bar carries a pair of Cibié spotlights. With less than 100 miles covered since 2016, this exciting TR is itching to hit the tracks once more, and comes complete with numerous invoices and other items of paperwork.

In summary:

  • A street-legal, Works-style competition car of high specification
  • An inexpensive entrée in to sprint, hillclimbs and regularity rallies
  • The subject of a no expense spared rebuild
