Lot 8

1971 Honda CB750 K1

Registration - WWU 718J

Chassis No. - CB750-107243

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 28,000

Finished in Candy Gold, this very usable classic motorcycle has travelled 28,000 miles in its 50-year life. It is an older US import, the age and model of which are verified by its Honda Owner’s Club Dating Certificate. Its model year is significant, as 1971 was the year before CB750s were detuned to meet the new emission standards. Though nowadays exempt from both the MOT and road tax, it is worth noting that ‘WWU 718J’ sailed through a full MOT check back in October 2020 without issue. It has been the subject of considerable maintenance in recent times, which has included the installation of new: fork stanchions, steering head bearings, front brake caliper, rear brake shoes, chain and sprocket set, wheel bearings, Avon tyres, fuel tap, mudguard, battery, mirrors, and passenger grab handle. In addition, the carburettors have been ultrasonically cleaned and refurbished with genuine parts, while the fuel tank has been sealed and professionally repainted. The vendor volunteers that the bike would still benefit from the odd piece of minor refurbishment, and therefore currently classes the four-cylinder engine and five-speed gearbox as ‘excellent’, the paintwork and electrical system as ‘good’, but the frame/bodywork as ‘average’. A fine-looking machine that will surely only rise in value while providing its next keeper with lots of eminently pleasurable riding.

Highly rated by the media and enthusiasts, the air-cooled four-cylinder CB750 was in production from 1969 to 2003 and then again in 2007, and always very much targeted at the US market from where the sale bike was imported. Total production topped the 400,000 mark and the Honda is generally regarded as the model for which the term ‘superbike’ was coined.

In summary:

  • A very usable example of a much-vaunted classic
  • The subject of considerable maintenance in recent times
  • 28,000 miles from new
