Odometer - 70,120
The 1300 on offer currently displays 70,120 miles on its odometer. The total has been achieved by seven owners, the most recent of whom has retained the Triumph for the last three years. He informs us that it previously belonged to a classic car club, where it was ‘well looked after’. It benefited from a new clutch six months ago, but the front calipers apparently now require some attention. It seems the bodywork has suffered a little from the car being kept on a farm and, while the vendor now classes the engine and gearbox as ‘good’, he considers the bodywork, blue paintwork and tan leather interior to be in ‘below average’ condition. He concludes ‘it’s not a bad car for its age and just needs some TLC – it would make a great project for the right person’.
Penned by Michelotti, the 1300 was Triumph’s replacement for the Herald. Launched in 1965, it remained in production until 1970, by which time 113,008 examples of the standard car had been produced and a further 35,342 of the slightly nippier 1300TC. Unlike its predecessor, it was of frontwheel drive configuration and designed to compete with the Austin/Morris 1100. Power came from the company’s 1296cc OHV four-cylinder engine as already proven in the Triumph Herald 13/60.
'A Buyer’s Premium applies to the Hammer Price of this Lot if your bid is successful, as per the following; Motor Cars 12.5% + VAT (minimum £150 + VAT), Motorcycles and Bicycles 15% + VAT (minimum £100 + VAT); Registration Numbers 15% + VAT (minimum £50 + VAT); Automobilia 15% + VAT (minimum of £5 + VAT).'
Potential buyers should satisfy themselves with the description and condition of each lot prior to sale. Each vehicle is offered ‘as is/as seen’ as per the terms and conditions for the auction, buyers are asked to inspect the vehicle in person or use a professional to carry out the service. Any disputes over descriptions will not be entertained.
