The Bolesworth Castle October 2023 Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 80

1994 Rover Mini 35
One of just a thousand RHD special anniversary editions

Registration - M991 BNJ

Chassis No - SAXXNYADBBD091050

M.O.T. - May 2024

Odometer - 71,000

This pretty Mini 35 is finished in Arizona Blue. Previously used as transport for a family in Folkstone, it has required more TLC than the vendor expected, but has been thoroughly refurbished by him and is presently described as ‘lovely and ready to go’. The full list of work is too long to recount here, but has included: the removal and full overhaul of the engine; the installation of a new ignition system and exhaust, plus LCB Stage One manifold; a full inspection of the gearbox; multiple new brake and suspension parts; reconditioning of the front subframe; the fitment of four brand new Minilite alloy wheels shod with fresh Nankang tyres; the addition of a boot liner; replacement of the battery and a new Bluetooth JVC stereo and Pioneer speakers in place of the Rover factory system (the original unit comes with the car). The now fully sorted and handsome-looking ‘rot-free’ Mini is being sold complete with handbook; original Mini 35 catalogue; most if not all old MOTs, plus a current one; the original tax discs and an assortment of invoices (including over £3,500 worth from the last month alone); plus access to digital copies of photos covering the restoration.

It is doubtful if any other model of car can match the classic Mini for the number of special editions it inspired. Produced in 1994 in celebration of its 35th birthday, the Mini 35 was based on the Mini Sprite and therefore powered by a 1275cc version of the ubiquitous BMC A Series engine. The car was offered in just three colours – Arizona Blue, Nevada Red and Diamond White – which, on all UK versions, were paired with blue and pink ‘Jamboree’ fabric. The unique specification included opening rear windows and a Rover R652 stereo system. The production amounted to 1,000 righthand drive examples for the home market and 400 lefthand drive ones for the export regions.

In summary:

  • A smart six-keeper, 71,836-mile example
  • The subject of much recent restoration and improvement
  • Comes complete with large history file and an MOT valid to May 8
