Spring 2021 Classics & Collectables Auction

  Lot 82

1950 Jowett Javelin

Chassis No. - E0PB/1203D

Registration - LXC164

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer – 49,500

Pioneering in its day and still a source of technical wonderment 74 years later, the Javelin is not only a stalwart of the general classic scene, but historic racing and rallying too – sectors of the sport the model excelled at in period. The history file of this particular UK-registered example confirms that it received a degree of mechanical work and body renovation before being repainted in the early 1990s. It was apparently then purchased by the late Harry Clark in 2011, who entrusted it to the The Classic Car Workshop Ltd of Darlington in order to have the engine overhauled.

According to the vendor, the last year in which the car was taxed, and indeed probably used, was 2015, since when it has slumbered peacefully in dry storage. He considers it to be in ‘good overall condition and seemingly sound’, and its light brown interior trim to be in ‘particularly good order’. Indeed, he feels the car would only require a minor level of recommissioning to see it return to the road once again. However, he notes that it would benefit from a small amount of restoration to the paintwork above the rear wings and below the windscreen, the replacement of the windscreen rubber, and a re-polish of the internal woodwork. Finished in Lime Green and displaying an unwarranted but totally credible 49,500 miles from new, ‘LXC 164’ is being offered complete with its original handbook, maintenance manual, and a history file containing invoices and old MOT certificates dating back to the early 1990s. An increasingly rare opportunity to purchase one of the landmark models to emanate from the British motor industry.

In summary:

  • An apparently sound, original and relatively low-mileage example
  • Thought to require only minor recommissioning to return to the road
  • Notably good light brown interior trim
