The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car Auction

  Lot 82

1994 MG RV8
Originally built for the Japanese market, cherished in the UK since 2002 and benefiting from upgraded Spax shock absorbers and air conditioning.

Registration - M63 XHW

Chassis No. - SARRAWBMBMG001634

M.O.T. -TBC

Odometer - 23,151

This immaculate-looking MG RV8 wears a period-correct ‘M’ registration plate – but DVLA records show it as being produced in 2002... That’s because this 190bhp 3.9-litre V8 car was a Japanese import, reflecting the fact that 1,579 of the 1,983 MG RV8 produced originally went to Japan. March 2002 is the date it was first registered here upon arriving in the UK. Once in the UK, the original speedometer in kilometres was changed for one reading in miles – and although this has since been lost, the car comes with a letter from a previous owner stating the car mileage was 42,000km when the speedometer was changed. The vendor says the odometer today reads 23,151 miles. They add that MOT records back this up – with the oldest, which dates back to 2002, showing a recorded mileage of just 3 miles!

Whilst in UK ownership, the car has amassed a large history file comprising of all maintenance and parts, and a selection of service invoices showing the car has had much care. ‘M63 XHW’ has an MOT valid until June 2025, and the vendor adds it benefits from upgraded Spax shock absorbers – air conditioning is a welcome extra feature, too.

The MGB was revealed in 1962 and remained in production until 1980. The archetypal British classic sports car was then revived by Rover Group in 1992, using bodyshells from British Motor Heritage; the specialist division manufactured the bodyshell, which was painted at Rover’s Cowley plant, before being hand-built in a final assembly area. Because so many mechanical parts from the original MGB were used, the MG RV8 retained a period feel on the road, but the front and rear bodywork upgrades and lavish Connolly leather and burr elm walnut veneer interior gave it a real luxury-grade experience.

In summary:

  • Immaculate-looking Japanese import MG RV8
  • Has enjoyed much care while in the UK
  • Attainable example of a popular classic
