The Gold Cup Classic Car Auction

  Lot 83

1987 Porsche 944 S

Registration - E505 VMW

Chassis No. - WP0ZZZ94ZHN401224

M.O.T. - December 2022

Odometer - 82,675

‘E505 VMW’ is a rare car, as the S variant of the 944 was only produced between 1987 and 1988, and 68 percent of the 12,936 made went to America. Finished in the popular Porsche colour of Guards Red and trimmed in black and white pinstripe fabric, the car has only had four owners to date, the most recent of whom has retained it for the last 17 years. For the greater part of that time it has been serviced by 944 specialist Jon Mitchell of Ferndown, Dorset. In its time the car has been a concours prize winner and featured on the cover of the subsequent Porsche Owners’ Club magazine. It still presents very well, though the vendor notes that there is now a small patch of rust on the offside front wing and a degree of wear and tear to the seats. He therefore sees it as the perfect car for an enthusiast who could reactively easily return it to concours condition. He is now selling the Porsche complete with electrically operated sunroof, windows and mirrors and a current MOT valid to December 2. A very worthwhile opportunity

The 944 model was launched in 1982. Its 2.5-litre engine was based on half the V8 unit of the 928 and it drove through a five-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission to a rear-mounted Audi transaxle, resulting in an almost perfect 50/50 weight distribution. The more powerful 16-valve 944 S arrived in 1987. The car was capable of sprinting to 60mph in little more than 6.0 seconds, and attaining some 144mph flat out.

In summary:

  • Just four keepers and 82,675 miles from new
  • Has remained within the current ownership for 17 years
  • A rare model that was only made between 1987 and 1988
