Registration - H657 YUE
Chassis No. - WVWZZZ1GZLW672698
M.O.T. - July 2023
Odometer - 65,306
Most 32 year-old cars have by now been scrapped or at least partially restored, but ‘H657 YUE’, bears all the hallmarks of one that’s remained remarkably unmolested. Finished in Royal Blue Metallic and trimmed in black/grey cloth, it has clearly been cherished by its four owners, who’ve notched up a mere 65,206 miles between them. The bodywork appears to be very straight and the paintwork generally good aside of areas of dullness on the bonnet and front wing tops, while the VW rides on a tidy set of BBS alloy wheels. The interior is pleasingly free of stains and tears and belies its age. We understand the engine has benefited from a top end rebuild during the vendor’s seven-year tenure, and the vendor currently classes the powerplant, five-speed manual gearbox and upholstery as ‘good’ and the five-door bodywork and paintwork as ‘average’. Still teaming with life, the Golf is now available for sale complete with sunroof, radio/cassette player, jack, space-saver wheel and tyre, original book pack and what could well be the suppling dealer’s sticker in the rear window.
Now in its eighth generation, the Golf GTi remains the hot hatch by which all rival products are judged. The inaugural version was made available to a delighted German public in June 1976, while it wasn’t until July 1979 that righthand drive versions landed on British shores. The very differently styled MKII model assumed the GTi mantle in 1983. It was bigger overall than the original design and more rounded in shape but, as before, the GTi version was powered by a 110.5bhp, 8-valve, normally-aspirated, in-line four-cylinder engine of 1.8-litres capacity engine fed by Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection (hence the ‘i’ in the name).
