The Gold Cup Classic Car Auction

  Lot 84

1956 Austin A30

Registration - NBX 486

Chassis No. - A2S4209319

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 23,861

This delightful and remarkably original-looking two-door A30 saloon is presented in its original black paintwork that’s teamed with a very tidy red vinyl interior. The car has remained in its current ownership since 2019, during which time it has been stored in a dry garage and is only being parted with as a result of the vendor’s deteriorating health. He presently views the A Series engine and manual transmission as being in ‘good’ order, and the bodywork, paintwork and interior as ‘average’, and summarises the baby Austin as being in ‘very good original condition and running order for its year, with ample power and no rust’. It has benefited from the replacement of the brake master cylinder and front and rear wheel cylinders as recently as last year, and is now being offered complete with the owner’s manual and spare rear springs, radiator and a set of brake shoes. According to Experian Autocheck ‘NBX 486’ has had only two previous keepers which, if correct, means the A30s notably low indicated total mileage of 23,861 could be right. A charming and affordable classic that deserves a suitably caring new home.

Launched at the 1951 Earls Court Motor Show as the ‘New Austin Seven’, Austin’s A30 was created as a direct competitor to the already very successful Morris Minor. It was the first car of monocoque construction to be produced by Austin and initially only offered in four-door guise – the two-door version followed in 1953, with the van and Countryman estate variants coming on stream another year later. The model range was superseded by the A35 in 1956, by when 223,264 examples had been produced.

In summary:

  • An apparently very original three-owner, low mileage example
  • Presented in its original paintwork
  • Comes with a selection of spare parts
