1987 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 3-Door
Only 65,000 miles, in current ownership for 27 years

As Cossie fans are well aware, the original 3-door versions are hot property these days, and this tidy example in the classic combination of Moonstone bodywork and grey cloth interior should have little trouble finding a suitable new home. Well-presented, it has had just four keepers from new, the most recent of whom has retained the car for no less than 27 years. In common with most of its siblings it has benefited from the odd tweak. To be precise it has been chipped to Phase 1 level and currently produces 270bhp. The engine sports Samco silicone hoses and exhales via a stainless steel exhaust system, while a hefty strut brace adds to the overall rigidity. Koni suspension was fitted all round in 1997 and the locks were changed in 2010 following an attempted theft (please note that the vehicle is HPI clear). The vendor currently grades the turbo engine, five-speed manual gearbox, bodywork, paintwork and upholstery as ‘good’. He is now selling the RS complete with a comprehensive history file and a full year’s worth of MOT.
Released in the September of 1982, the Ford Sierra was a replacement for the ubiquitous Cortina and its German sibling, the Taunus. The aerodynamic styling was arguably ahead of its time and caused initial controversy – one eminent UK journalist nicknaming it the ‘jelly mould’. Ford had the last laugh, however, with sales eventually reaching 1,299,993 units over the 11 years of production; making it Britain’s 10th most popular car up to that time. Always quick to support the performance and motorsport markets, Ford introduced the be-winged XR4i in 1983. This was followed by the XR 4x4 in 1985, the Sierra RS Cosworth in 1986, the Sierra RS500 Cosworth in 1987, the Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth in 1988 and the Sierra Sapphire RS Cosworth 4x4 in 1990; some 12,250 of which were manufactured before Ford’s power mantle was assumed by the Escort RS Cosworth in 1992. A total of 5,545 RS Cosworths like the sale car were produced between 1986 and 1987, 500 of which were converted to RS500 specification by Tickford.
