The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

  Lot 85

1986 Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 3-Door
Benefits from desirable upgrades

Registration - D22 CSY

Chassis No. - WF0EXXGBBEGR93223

M.O.T. - April 2024

Odometer - 78,000

As we’ve said many times before, there are the Cossies that have been thrashed and crashed and ones that have been properly maintained and treated with due respect. Happily, this lovely example ticks all the right boxes. According to VDI check, it has had just four keepers from new, and only two since being imported from Ireland in October 1999, and the vendor says the very acceptable total indicated mileage of 78,894 is total genuine. He informs us that the underside is solid and that the subframes are Poly-bushed, new wheel bearings have been installed and the suspension treated to Eibach springs and Koni dampers. The engine is apparently set to deliver 330bhp courtesy of: a Garrett T34.48 turbocharger, 803 Green injectors, uprated dump valve, Collins actuator, HT leads, Group A coil and a re-map – the car’s revised specification also includes a stainless steel exhaust system, alloy tanks and braided brake lines. Recent work has included: engine bottom end rebuild with new bearings, rings, seals and gaskets; a service that took in the timing belt, water pump, belts, tensioners and all fluids; an overhaul of the T5 gearbox and differential; and refurbishment of the brake calipers and replacement of the pads. ‘D22 CSY’ certainly looks the part too, and features original RS500 upper and lower rear spoilers and front bumper, and rides on original 15inch diamond cut alloy wheels that are shod in quality tyres (Pirelli P5000 front and Michelin Pilot HX rear), while the wheels come with their original caps and key. The vendor currently regards the turbo engine, five-speed manual gearbox, and three-door bodywork as ‘excellent’ and the Moonstone paintwork and grey cloth upholstery as ‘good’.

A total of 5,545 RS Cosworths like the sale car were produced between 1986 and 1987, 500 of which were converted to RS500 specification by Tickford.

In summary:

  • An apparently very genuine four-keeper, 78,894-mile example
  • The subject of a lot of recent maintenance
  • Benefits from a number of desirable upgrades
