The Gold Cup Classic & Performance Car & Motorcycle Auction

  Lot 86

1989 Ford Transit MK3 190 LWB
A credible 10,601 miles from new

Registration - F120 YFS

Chassis No. - WFOVXXGBVVKJ06584

M.O.T. - March 2024

Odometer - 10,601

Commercial vehicles are designed to be used and abused and most are treated accordingly. Not so this remarkably tidy long-wheelbase Transit panel van, that would appear to have travelled just 10,500 miles since vacating the production line 34 years ago, and which apparently retains all its original panels and even its factory-fitted Ford exhaust system. An export model, it was first UK registered as recently as April of this year and pairs red bodywork with grey vinyl interior trim. It features twin rear wheels, a semi-high roof and four glazed loading doors in addition to the cab ones. It is powered by a 2.0-litre Pinto engine that drives through the later-style MT75 five-speed manual gearbox. Following a recent bout of light refurbishment, the van is described by the vendor as having ‘excellent’ four-cylinder engine, five-speed manual gearbox, bodywork, paintwork and upholstery, and he’s now offering ‘F120 YFS’ for sale complete with a pair of auxiliary driving lights and a current MOT certificate valid to March 28 next year.

Launched in 1965 and now in its ninth generation across a fourth platform, Ford’s Transit is a global success story that’s been Europe’s best-selling light commercial vehicle for no less than 40 years and the best in the USA for the last seven. In many parts of the world the word Transit has long since become the generic term for any make of similar van, and in excess of 8 million examples have been produced to date. What is generally known as the MK3 version was based on the model’s second platform and remained in production from 1986 until 2000. It was readily recognisable by its steeply angled windscreen that echoed the line of the bonnet, and its simple but practical box-like design.

In summary:

  • Recently imported and displaying just 10,500 miles from new
  • A very well-presented long-wheelbase example
  • Recently treated to a light refurbishment and MOT’d to April 2024
