The Gold Cup Classic Car Auction

  Lot 87

1962 Morris Minor 1000 Traveller

Registration - 162 EPX

Chassis No. - M/AW3/96479

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 91,720

Minor Travellers simply don’t come much better than this, and small wonder, as it has been the subject of a painstaking £25,000 bare metal restoration, during which the panelwork was replaced or refurbished, the woodwork and brightwork renewed, the wheels stripped and powder coated and the bodywork refinished in its original green livery. Of equivalent quality, the interior was completely reupholstered and treated to a new set of carpets. The engine was stripped and rebuilt and nowadays drives through a replacement gearbox. It should therefore come as no surprise that the vendor presently grades the bodywork, paintwork, upholstery, 948cc A series engine and transmission as all being in ‘excellent’ order. First registered in May 1962, the mighty Minor is now 59 years old, yet is virtually as new in every department. It has remained within the current ownership for some years, but the deteriorating health of the vendor means it is now available for sale complete with a full set of invoices and photographic record of the restoration. If you are in the market for a mint Minor Traveller then this could certainly be the car for you.

Morris’s Minor is almost as universal a symbol of England as the London bus. Moreover, with over 1.6million being manufactured in its 23-year reign, it is unquestionably one of the most successful cars of all time. We shouldn’t be too surprised, however, as the man leading the design team, Alec Issigonis, went on to pen a succession of ground-breaking cars, including the ubiquitous Mini. The Minor set out to provide the luxuries and practicality of existing quality motorcars at a price suitable for the ordinary person, and did.

In summary:

  • Surely one of the best of the breed
  • The subject of a £25,000 restoration
  • Comes with comprehensive history file
