The sensuous curves of the 308 have aged well and this righthand drive 1985 GTS Quattrovalvole is an undeniably handsome stallion. It is finished in the classic combination of Rosso Corsa bodywork matched with black leather with red piping interior trim and a black Targa top, the sound of that iconic flat-plane V8 is accentuated by the addition of a stainless-steel exhaust system. ‘C71 CUC’ has remained in the care of the vendor for the last twelve years and benefited from regular servicing and engine belts throughout his ownership. He presently grades the five-speed manual transmission as ‘good’, the V8 engine and bodywork as ‘good’ and the paintwork and upholstery as ‘good’. The Ferrari is now being offered complete with its original tools, owner’s manual and many service invoices dating back to 2003, plus a large A4 folder worth of history that includes a current MOT certificate valid until June 2024.
The 308 GTB was Ferrari’s replacement for the immortal Dino 246 GT, and made its debut at the 1975 Paris Salon. Its shapely contours were the work of Pininfarina’s Leonardo Fioravanti, who had already penned such eternal classics as the Daytona, Dino and Berlinetta Boxer. In 1980, the carburetted engine was replaced by a Bosch fuel-injected version in the name of reduced emissions. However, the change left the revised unit short of power, which Ferrari addressed in 1983 with the Quattrovalvole (four valve) variant, that simultaneously restored the output to 252 bhp and the model’s reputation. Made famous by the TV series Magnum PI, the 308 has matured into a collectors’ favourite, with the 308 GTB QV (Berlinetta) and 308 GTS QV (Targa Top) models becoming the most sought after.
