November 2021 Classics Auction

  Lot 88

1963 Daimler V8-250
From a long-term ownership of some 22 years complete with its original registration 370 VAR this very desirable early V8 has been fastidiously maintained by its enthusiast owner.

Registration - 370 VAR

Chassis No. - PA12451BW

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 45,840

Many knowledgeable fans of the MKII Jaguar and its siblings cite the Daimler V8-250 as the jewel in the family crown, and any such aficionados currently seeking one of these silky-smooth V8 saloons would be well advised to consider ‘370 VAR’. It has remained in the ownership of a lifelong Daimler enthusiast for no less than 22 years, but now seeks a suitably caring new home. Finished in British Racing Green and recently treated to a £6,000-plus retrim in quality green leather by a well-known trimmer, it is self-evidently a very well cared-for car. The vendor presently grades the engine, automatic transmission and upholstery as ‘excellent’ and the bodywork and paintwork as ‘good’. And, as can be seen from the photos, the car presents very well with tidy, straight panelwork and suitably lustrous brightwork, and has been fastidiously maintained. It is now being offered complete with a good set of matching Hankook tyres, front seatbelts, period Radiomobile push-button radio, a full set of tools, comprehensive history file with a plentiful collection of invoices for work done, the original owner’s handbook and service manual, and the attractive registration ‘370 VAR’ that has been on the Daimler from new. This genuine and apparently very original specimen currently indicates an unwarranted but totally credible total mileage of just 45,840.

Daimler versions of the MKII were readily distinguishable by the heavily fluted tops of their chrome radiator grilles and, of course, lacked the ‘leaping cat’ bonnet mascots of their Jaguar siblings. By the time manufacture of all MKII derivatives ceased in 1969, some 17,620 examples of the much-vaunted V8-250 had been produced.

In summary:

  • 22 years in the care of a lifelong Daimler enthusiast
  • Fastidiously maintained
  • Recently professionally retrimmed at a cost of over £6,000
