An Auction of Classic and Performance Cars and Motorcycles

  Lot 89

1969 Morris 6 CWT Van
A delightfully unmolested example

Registration - BWR 199H

Chassis No. - M/AV5269067

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 52,300

Some collectors like their classics to have been professionally restored and have the funds to pay for that privilege. Others, however, relish the idea of an unmolested vehicle that comes with the patina of age included in the price. ‘BWR 199H’ falls firmly in the latter category. Its grey paintwork is punctuated with the odd patch of light surface rust, but we don’t doubt the claim that it is good and solid overall and Waxoyled underneath. It has had six keepers to date, the first of whom was reputedly a lecturer at Leeds University, who allowed his trainee mechanics to perform an annual strip and rebuild on the van as part of their education. By all accounts any parts required were paid for by the University, so the Morris was kept in top order while covering very few miles. It has subsequently been the van of choice for an electrician and carpet fitter, among others. Its 1098cc engine is thought to be equipped with an unleaded cylinder head, and £600 has recently been spent on rectifying a gearbox issue, so the van ‘now drives as well as it runs’. The modest indicated mileage of just 52,300 is believed to be correct and appears to be supported by the vehicle’s MOT history. ‘BWR 199H’ is now being sold complete with heater, auxiliary oil pressure/water temperature gauge, radio/cassette player, all-weather cover, carpeted cabin and load bay, workshop manuals, parts catalogue and spare keys.

In common with the pickup, a van version of the ubiquitous Morris Minor was available from 1953 to the end of Minor production in 1971. Austin-badged versions were introduced following the termination of the Austin A35 range in 1968. Though unmistakably related to their saloon and Traveller siblings, the commercial variants featured separate chassis rather than monocoque bodyshells. Other distinguishing features included telescopic rear dampers, stiffer leaves for the rear springs and a lower final drive ratio.

In summary:

  • A delightfully unmolested example
  • Six keepers and a credible 52,300 miles from new
  • Equipped with all-weather cover, heater and radio/cassette
