November 2021 Classics Auction

  Lot 89

1979 Escort RS2000 Group 4 Rally Car
Built at a huge expense including a Sadev 6 speed sequential gearbox.

Registration - GRO 145T

Chassis No. - GCATWL017970

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 60

This as-new fast Ford has driven just 60 miles since its transformation from RS2000 Custom to full-house Group 4 rally car was completed in 2020. A serious competition weapon, it comes complete with a Motorsport UK Vehicle Passport valid until January 2029. Anybody wanting such a car should definitely check out ‘GRO 145T’, as to build its equivalent from scratch would now cost far more than the amount being sought – over £60,000 has been invested by the current keeper alone.

The pristine Group 4 shell, complete with arch extensions, is finished in Frozen White and has been fitted with: multi-point welded-in roll cage; Race Technology Dash 2; Cobra Suzuka seats; TRS belts; professional wiring loom; Lifeline electric fire extinguisher; Armtec battery cut-out; and carbon fibre bonnet. The Escort is powered by a 2-litre dry sump Duratec unit. Built by TBR with Jondel cylinder head, it features a DTAFast S40 Pro ECU fitted and set up by Martin Fox and mapped by Steve Greenald. The engine’s Jenvey throttle bodies are fed by twin Mahle pumps and the exhaust is Simpson Superstox, front to rear. The powerplant drives through a centre-push AP twin-plate hydraulic lug mount paddle clutch to a 6-speed Sadev SCL82-17 sequential gearbox with flat shift. This in turn connects via a two-piece propshaft to a Squires fully floating Atlas axle and limited slip differential with 5.1:1 crown wheel and pinion. Launch control is operated via a 12-point switch on the dash.

The quick steering rack is operated by a Corsa electric power set-up; there is Bilstein suspension front and rear; braking is via AP Pro 5000+ vented discs front and AP CP2383 units rear. There are both mechanical and hydraulic handbrake systems and Aeroquip hoses are installed throughout.

In summary:

  • Just 60 miles driven since a total rebuild to Group 4 rally specification
  • Impressive list of specialist competition parts
  • Comes complete with Motorsport UK Vehicle Passport valid to 2029
