Most 26 year-old cars have passed through the hands of multiple owners. Not so this trusty Volvo, which had had just the one so far! Finished in a pleasing combination of silver bodywork and cream leather interior trim, it has covered a relatively modest 84,675 miles from new. Save for a tiny bit of rust on the nearside door and one slightly poor area of paint, it presents well, and is summarised by the vendor as having an ‘excellent 2.5-litre petrol engine and automatic transmission, ‘good’ bodywork and upholstery, and ‘average’ paintwork. The 850 is now offered complete with sunroof, heated memory seats, premium sound system, upgraded alloy wheels, tow hook etc, plus a history file containing the original bill of sale, and various invoices, plus a well-stamped service book and even a current MOT valid until August 1 next year. Volvo’s 850 saloons and estates were produced from 1991 to 1996, when the range morphed into the S70 and V70 respectively. The launch slogan was ‘A dynamic car with four unique innovations’, which related to the transverse five-cylinder engine, Delta-link rear axle, Side Impact Protection System (SIPS) and self-adjusting seat belts.
