The Gold Cup Classic Car Auction

  Lot 92

1972 Jaguar E-Type 5.3 Coupe

Registration - LAB 555K

Chassis No. - 1S 50564

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 92,000

This pleasingly unmolested home market Series 3 model was manufactured on October 1, 1971 and registered new to a Mr J T Stuart of Edgbaston, Birmingham on January 3, 1972 – the supplying dealer was Hewitts Garages of Wolverhampton. To this day the Jaguar has only had six keepers, who between them have travelled a total of 92,000 miles. It benefits from having a manual gearbox, heavy duty alternator, high torque starter motor and full stainless steel exhaust system, and was recommissioned in February this year following a period of storage. That resulted in a new fuel pump, hoses, cooling fan, drive belts and oils, and a radiator flush. Back in the ‘80s ‘LAB 555K’ was treated to a colour change from Ascot Fawn to Primrose Yellow, that’s matched to the original Cinnamon-coloured leather interior trim. The vendor feels the paintwork ‘is bearing up well’, but notes that minor surface corrosion is evident on the passenger door and rear wheelarch. The E-Type is now offered for sale complete with sunroof, period-correct Avon Turbospeed tyres, push-button radio and new fitted car cover, plus a comprehensive history file containing: Heritage Certificate; extensive maintenance data including bills from Henly’s of Chester and XK Engineering; an invoice for re-chroming of the brightwork; owner’s book pack; and numerous old tax discs and MOT certificates.

From birth, the E-Type was available either as a fixed head coupe or two-seat roadster. For 1966, a 2+2 version of the coupe was added to the range. It was 9in longer and featured a more vertical windscreen. The Series 3 cars were introduced in 1971, virtually all of which were fitted with Jaguar’s new 5.3-litre V12 engine.

In summary:

  • Comprehensive history file
  • Features manual gearbox plus various desirable upgrades
  • Comes complete with sunroof, push-button radio and car cover
