November 2021 Classics Auction

  Lot 95

1968 NG TD

Registration - LOX 518F

Chassis No. - GHD31375250

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 88,818

Once the property of NG club member Ian Robinson and a further six former keepers, this sprightly-looking two-seater was built in 1983 and has subsequently been used for hillclimbs and sprints. The tub is stamped TD000, which apparently makes it the first body ever produced by the NG factory. The car is finished in white that’s complemented by black leather upholstery, wood facia and black carpets, and it rides on red-painted wire wheels shod with almost new tyres. Power comes from a tuned 1798cc MGB engine that boasts a pair of HS6 SU carburettors and a fast road camshaft. The unit drives through a four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive. The car has recently benefited from a new clutch and related hydraulics and at some stage its dynamo was replaced with an alternator. The vendor presently considers the engine, transmission, fibreglass/aluminium bodywork, paintwork and upholstery to all be in ‘excellent’ condition, and is now offering the NG for sale complete with a pair of Corbeau competition bucket seats, leather-rimmed steering wheel and a packed history file.

NG Cars was founded in 1979 by Nick Green. Hand-built in the traditional vein around a bespoke ladder chassis, they were clothed in substantial glassfibre bodies topped by aluminium bonnets. They employed MG running gear and are generally powered by either MGB engines or the venerable all-alloy Rover V8. There was the option of having them factory built or acquiring them in kit form. Loosely echoing the MG T Series line-up of the past, there was the choice TA, TC, TD and TF models. A total of over 2,000 NGs are understood to have been sold.

In summary:

  • Built around the first NG body made back in 1983
  • Powered by a tuned MGB engine
  • Has been used for hillclimbs and sprints
