An Auction of Classic and Performance Cars and Motorcycles

  Lot 96

1965 Ford Cortina Super V8
Just 928 miles travelled since the completion

Registration - DYY 177C

Chassis No. - BA82EM28840

M.O.T. - Exempt

Odometer - 06925

‘DYY 177C’ began life in April 1965 as an unsuspecting Cortina 1.2 Super and remained as such until 2019, when it was not only subjected to a complete rebuild but a total change of character. Out came its venerable ‘Kent’ four-cylinder engine and in its place was installed not a Lotus twin-cam unit as the car’s livery might suggest, but a reconditioned 4.6-litre Rover V8 no less. Other related upgrades include: Mega Squirt fuel injection; EDIS ignition system; Cherry Bomb exhausts; aluminium radiator; aluminium racing fuel tank; five-speed Ford Sierra gearbox; 3.0-litre Capri rear axle; Wilwood 4-pot brakes up front and Sierra discs on the rear, plus a bias pedal box and braided hoses all-round; Bilstein front strut inserts and single leaf springs/Spax adjustable dampers on the rear; bucket seats; Moto-Lita wood-rim steering wheel; Minilite-style alloy wheels shod with Yokohama tyres; LED lighting. With just 928 miles travelled since the rebirth was completed, the vendor presently regards the engine, transmission, bodywork, paintwork and upholstery to all be in ‘excellent’ order, and is now offering this unique and purposeful classic complete with its original buff log book and a large selection of invoices.

With few Cortinas still in everyday use, it’s hard to believe that the model was by far Britain’s best-selling car throughout the 1970s – available in two and four-door saloon and estate versions, the model dominated our roads. Five generations were produced between 1962 and 1982, each of which notched up over a million sales. At introduction the car was powered by an 1193cc three-bearing version of the four-cylinder OHV ‘Kent’ engine, though the option of a five-bearing 1500cc unit followed within months. Initially the mechanical specification echoed that of the Anglia with four-speed manual gearbox, drum brakes all-round, MacPherson strut front suspension, live axle mounted on leaf springs at the rear, and recirculating ball steering.

In summary:

  • A totally unique performance Ford of very high specification
  • Just 928 miles travelled since the completion of the rebuild
  • Comes complete with original log book and lots of invoices
